Katrina aftermath update

Finally made it to Baton Rouge w/another LJer (Lux aka Ultraluxe) as one of our group of 8. Horrendus is not a strong enough word to describe what we all went through both together and separately. Terrifying chaos and danger.

There will be more updates later when I am in Houston as my job has relocated there and offered to get me there and set up and continue working with my bosses who relocated. From there, I will make my way perhaps to Troy, New York and eventually end up in Providence, Rhode Island. As with many, I ended up with the clothes on my back, a backpack w/my laptop (that is now wet - oh well, maybe once it dries out), and my two cats who are boarded at a Vet tonight and getting emergency medical treatment.

I am safe and still sane (insanity may come later). What you are seeing on CNN and the other news channels, at least as of tonight, is accurate - except three times worse. I am so disgusted with George Bush that I may head to DC and personally castrate him. Fucker mother fucker. He has the biggest target on his back - I wish the crowds in New Orleans and elsewhere had stormed him and torn him to fucking pieces.

PLEASE PLEASE anyone from New Orleans post your whereabouts if you can and how you are doing. I've heard from Lux that Andy and Melanie made it out as well as Tim and Micah and others. I really need to know if anyone (Todd?) has heard from Michelle and Rory - I am so worried about them I am sick.

omygoddess, liz-

Can you get any Bach Flower Rescue Remedy drops? For yourself and your cat's water?

Did you have sensible shoes to wear?

How the heck did you make it all the way THERE, through ALL of THAT DANGER?

We are amazed. We are so happy you and your cats got OUT.

Of course this devastation could have been avoided. It is so totally George Bush's evil idiocy that tore NOLA off the map for several years...

If there is ANYTHING i can do, please ASK.

In the MEANtime, I hope you can get yourself plenty of rest.

Liz! I am so glad you are out of there. I have been so worried about you all this time. I feared that you might have gone to the convention center...thank god you made it out your own way.

I am in Beaumont, TX which is about an hour from Houston. Looks like I live here now! Leia and I are frantic to get our cats and waiting for any news from the various rescue lists we have them on. As soon as that happens I am prepared to drive back and meet them where ever they end up...I'm guessing Baton Rouge? Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Hi Nadine!

We were at the convention center for 1 day and a half - I cannot even describe the horror and chaos and danger. Sickening. I am amazed were made it out alive but it only got worse from there.

I am safe in BR and will be here for a week or so before traveling to Houston via the graciousness of my job.

Much love to you and Leia and I am sick with worry over your cats and Todd's - I hope they make it, I really do.

Liz, I've been crying off and on all week reading everyone's postings and following the news. I can finally breathe a little easier knowing that you and your babies got out alive. I am horrified to hear that it is three times worse than what we've been seeing in the media. I can't imagine what you've been through...

so i posted elsewhere but here's my cousins numbers in houston again..joy and dan... oh her husband has a free non long distance number..it's 877-2283....you can go take showers,wash clothes, yourrself,anything...home and cell are .2814556856 and 2819070743. and if you need any clothes, let me know whereyour address will be or i can send them to my couisins house and she can get them to you. i have tons of stuff i don't use that you can have. i can send blankets and pillows to if you need.

sane (heh). I will keep in touch and try to post progress reports. I am relocating to Houston in about a week and will plan my future from there a day at a time. can't do much more than that, I guess.

Heh - I posted a comment correcting that info

we definitely walked (and sometimes had to run) a lot but we also got help from three motorists at three different points to finally get to Baton Rouge.

I am SO glad to hear something from you. I've been checking for any updates from you or others that might be with you for days. I am floored to hear you say that what the media is presenting is entirely accurate if not a bit understated.

I know you have a lot of friends and family to reconnect with right now...but I do want you to know that you've been in my thoughts this entire week and I'm so glad to know that you (and your cats!) are safe. I hope your kitties can recover from whatever ailment has them in for emergency treatment.

Lux and Neptune went to Lafayette I believe

So I didn't get to pass along the msg - ah well. They were fine as can be expected - better now that they are safely on their way to rebuild.

I AM SO GLAD YOU AND MEL ARE SAFE!!!! Ricky and Allison have been legendary with their graciousness and care. I am so grateful to them...so grateful.
